Guitar Setup Stability
Friday, August 15th, 2008I have been getting letters thanking me because the guitars are arriving well set up and in tune.
I wanted to thank you for your kind words. It means a lot to me that my customers truly enjoy their guitars.
I also wanted to tell you that I set up each guitar twice. I set up each guitar as it is finished, then I hold the guitar for a few days while Richard takes his photos, and then I redo the setup.
My guitars are designed to be as stable as I can possibly make them. But, I have learned that, whatever the design, all guitars move.
They “settle in” as they get used to being under string tension. Most of the movement happens over the first few days, so holding the guitar and setting it up a second time gives our customers a better set up when they open the case, and helps keep it that way.
I know that many of my customers want to have the guitar shipped the moment I can put strings on it, but the short wait makes for a better guitar - and great photos.
